Char Siu Bao

Prepare bao dough and chinese BBQ pork ahead of time.

Bao making is a project. It is a lot like bread making with multiple steps. Because of this I decided to make up a LOT of bao. I hope that you enjoy the recipe and will try it yourself!

Char Siu Bao

2 cups chopped (fine) Chinese BBQ Pork (Char Siu)

2 scallions/green onions, white and green chopped

1 tbs oyster sauce

1 tbs soy sauce

1 tsp toasted sesame oil

1 tsp sugar (or honey)

1 tsp cornstartch

2 tsp water

1. Heat oyster sauce, soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil in a small sauce pan. Create a slurry with the cornstarch and water and add to the pan. Heat until thickened.

2. Add char siu and diced green onions to the sauce. This will be what you stuff into the bao.

3. Cut your bao dough into equal pieces (I got about 30 out of this recipe). Take each piece of dough and work it into a round shape. It should be thicker in the middle to hold the char siu.

4. Add char siu mixture and seal all the way around. You do not want it to leak out!

5. You may also freeze them before steaming if you would like to keep them.Steam over boiling water for about 10-12 minutes. You can also bake them at 350 until brown.

You just made homemade BAO!
